Vote for $18/hour minimum wage in California fails to make ballot - KTVL

NORTHSTATE, Calif. — According to Cal Matters Californians won't get to vote on a ballot initiative for minimum wage in California to go up to as much as $18/hour in 2025.

The "California Living Wage Act" was a ballot initiative by many state labor organizations that proposed increasing the minimum wage in California to $16/hour in 2023, $17/hour in 2024, and $18/hour in 2025.

With inflation rates exceeding 7% over the 2021 and 2022 fiscal years, California employers will be required to increase the wage rate to $15.50 by Jan. 1, 2023.

Under California’s minimum wage law, this increase applies to all California employees, regardless of how many employees work for the business.

In addition, many California municipalities have their own minimum wage ordinances/requirements, which require a wage even higher than $15.50 per hour.
