ROSEAU, Minn. — The head coach of the Warroad girls hockey team has filed a civil defamation lawsuit against six individuals, claiming their “baseless allegations, wild fabrications and false statements” were designed to damage his reputation.
In the complaint, David Marvin, entering his 18th season as head coach of the Warriors this fall, seeks monetary damages for statements, online posts and comments made by all or some of the defendants.
The defendants, all Minnesotans, are Shana Lanctot of Red Lake Falls, Matt Lanctot of Red Lake Falls, Jeff Johnson of Warroad, Patti Johnson of Warroad, Coreen Lindquist of Warroad and Kirstin Coaeutte Johnson, who is a former Warroad resident now residing in Arizona.
The lawsuit, which asks for a jury trial, claims that the defendants conducted a campaign to harm Marvin’s reputation and have him removed as head girls hockey coach at Warroad. The lawsuit was filed Nov. 13 in Roseau County District Court.
All of the defendants are parents of either a current or former Warroad girls hockey team player, court documents stated.
