Wheeling Native Chris Stirewalt To Testify Before Jan. 6 Committee - Wheeling Intelligencer

WASHINGTON — As a Wheeling native, who formerly served as political editor for Fox News, prepares to testify before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, members of that committee said Sunday they have uncovered enough evidence for the Justice Department to consider an unprecedented criminal indictment against former President Donald Trump for seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Chris Stirewalt – a Linsly graduate and former writer for the Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register who now serves as political editor for NewsNation – announced on that network Friday that he would testify before the House Committee. He was running the Fox News political desk when it called Arizona for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. That drew the ire of then-President Donald Trump and his followers.

Stirewalt was fired from the network in January 2021. Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch told the Washington Post soon after that Stirewalt’s firing had nothing to do with the call on Arizona.

The committee announced that Trump’s campaign manager, Bill Stepien, also is among the witnesses scheduled to testify at a hearing Monday that focuses on Trump’s effort to spread his lies about a stolen election.

“I would like to see the Justice Department investigate any credible allegation of criminal activity on the part of Donald Trump,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a committee member who also leads the House Intelligence Committee. “...
