Attorneys for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. have asked a court to seal what they call "lurid, fabricated stories" and largely anonymous allegations from a workplace discrimination lawsuit, claiming they aren't relevant to the case filed in federal court last August.
Attorneys for the tech giant, which has started to produce advanced semiconductors at its $65 billion campus in north Phoenix, summarized the assertions in a Feb. 13 filing as involving alleged drug use, prostitution and other claims, as well as other allegations such as unsafe chemical handling that also aren't relevant to the case, they said.
The Phoenix complex now counts about 3,000 workers, including hundreds from Taiwan, and has employed thousands of additional construction workers, with more than 90% of those American hires, the company said.
If the court doesn't seal the offending passages, the attorneys added, it would be a misuse of the judicial process by "promoting public scandal and defaming TSMC."
