Babita Deokaran will be honoured with a monument in Durban in August.
Deokaran was murdered outside her Johannesburg home nearly five years ago after she blew the whistle on corruption linked to Tembisa Hospital.
The former Phoenix resident was the acting chief financial officer at the Gauteng Health Department at the time of her killing.
Her family, together with the Mount Edgecombe Arts and Cultural Council and Shri Mariammen Temple Society, will unveil a memorial to Deokaran in Mount Edgecombe on Women's Day.
" Her family roots are in the Mount Edgecombe area, and then they had moved on to an area called New Cottage, which is now in Phoenix, and she moved to Johannesburg to work. She was assassinated in August, five years ago," said Seelan Archary, the temple's chairperson.
Archary says the event, which will be attended by various civil society organisations, is open to the public.
In our society, we have a long and proud history of honouring female leaders, such as Valliamma Munuswamy and Dr Ganam Naidu. So this monument will take the shape of a face and shoulders installed on a plinth with a plaque telling their story and including the names of all her daughters and her siblings"
Last year, the Special Investigating Unit revealed that R2 billion of public funds for Tembisa Hospital in Gauteng were looted - allegedly by three criminal syndicates.
It said at least 15 officials have been implicated.
