SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — South Salt Lake City Mayor Cherie Wood's regular social gatherings, known as "Girl's Night," are now under scrutiny amid concerns regarding the appointment of Danielle Croyle as the new police chief.
Wood's decision to move Croyle from the police department's public information officer to the position of police chief has raised questions about the selection process.
2News Investigates is probing whether Croyle's appointment is based on qualifications or if personal connections with the mayor played a significant role.
A whistleblower with intimate knowledge of these gatherings described "Girl's Night" events involving Mayor Cherie Wood, Danielle Croyle, two female city council members, and other city employees and the mayor's friends.
The whistleblower described it, "Girls’ night, every Saturday the mayor would invite her friends over to either her house or another female’s house who was part of the group."
The gatherings reportedly included multiple bottles of wine and hard liquor.
"Guaranteed there was about three to four bottles of wine and some hard alcohol sometimes too," the whistleblower said.
They didn't just go to each other's houses, the whistleblower said they also went to bars.
"When you become one of the girls in the city and she invites you and you get to hang out and drink and do what you want and drive home that is my biggest thing, we were drinking and driving home on the streets," the whistleblower said.
