Whistleblower exposes hotel doubling prices for Bon Jovi gig in Croke Park - Extra.ie

A Dublin hotel cancelled dozens of reservations for the night of a Bon Jovi concert in Croke Park this summer, and the rooms were then placed back on the market for up to 800, Extra.ie can reveal.

The Dublin One Hotel in Drumcondra, a stone’s throw from Croke Park, had sold upwards of 80 rooms for the night of August 30 – when the American rock band are scheduled to perform – via the online platform Booking.com.

However, the hotel’s UK-based management company didn’t realise the popular concert was taking place on that date and allegedly scrambled to increase prices from the 290 standard rate, a whistleblower told Extra.ie, with some double rooms going for as much as 800 after reservations were cancelled.

They alleged that staff were told to claim customers’ card details were invalid so their rooms could be resold at a higher price.

Customers who complained about the cancellations were told it was a matter for Booking.com, according to emails seen by Extra.ie.

The Dublin One Hotel did not deny cancelling the reservations, but denied doing so in an attempt to raise prices.

A spokesman for Booking.com said yesterday it is looking into the matter, adding: ‘Hotels are in control of managing their room availability and setting the prices they list on Booking.com, and are expected to act in good faith when managing bookings made through the platform.

‘We have strict guidelines around this and are looking into this further.’
