LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Kentucky State Police whistleblower featured in the docu-series The Gray Gods is calling for a change in leadership, saying he felt compelled to speak out about what he believes is wrong inside the agency.
In a letter sent to WAVE News, the whistleblower—who asked that his identity be protected—said he spent years serving KSP before reaching a point where he could no longer stay quiet. He said his intent is not to tear the agency down, but to push for accountability.
“It was brought up many times that things were getting out of hand,” he wrote. “But who do you tell when leaders don’t want to hear it?”
He continued: “I grew up with a belief system that taught me, ‘Don’t trade your soul for anyone, especially those who are supposed to be holding a line greater than themselves.’ So, in the end, that’s why I came forward.”
The Gray Gods investigates how KSP handled accusations of excessive force involving its own troopers, focusing on how leadership reviewed and closed internal investigations. The series also examines cases KSP deemed reasonable uses of force—cases that later resulted in troopers being indicted and convicted.
In one clip from the series, the whistleblower says, “They need to change, they need to adapt just like everybody else. This isn’t 1948. You got to adapt to the times, treat people the way they’re supposed to be treated.”
