Whistleblower lawsuit claims illegal licenses issued to undocumented immigrants in Louisville - WLKY

FRANKFORT, Ky. —

A whistleblower lawsuit has led to demands for investigations into alleged fraud at Kentucky regional driver's license offices.

Republican lawmakers are demanding answers about the allegations; however, a criminal investigation is already underway.

The whistleblower worked as a contract employee at the Nia Center driver's license branch in Louisville.

According to the lawsuit she filed, two co-workers were being paid under the table to help undocumented immigrants illegally obtain driver's licenses or permits.

She claims those co-workers were using her login information because she had been directed by her supervisor to give it to new employees.

Those two workers were fired.

Despite that, the whistleblower says she also lost her job after being questioned by investigators.

This week, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman confirmed an ongoing investigation involving his office, Kentucky State Police, and federal partners.

State Auditor Allison Ball also sent a letter to Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asking for more information.

During his Team Kentucky update, Beshear said the cabinet has already taken action.

"The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet regularly reviews credential applications. And during one of their reviews, they identified a number of irregularities and they have revoked 1,985 credentials," Beshear said. "We are committed to getting all of the facts and to holding anybody who violated the law accountable."
