Wilson responds to Mace’s claims about him, AG’s office: ‘Categorically false’ - WIS News 10

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said claims Congresswoman Nancy Mace made about him and his office Monday night, during a nearly hour-long speech on the U.S. House of Representatives floor, are “categorically false.”

During her remarks, Mace made shocking allegations, accusing her former fiancé and three other men of what she called “some of the most heinous crimes against women imaginable” but claimed they have not faced charges even after prosecutors received evidence.

Mace also alleged a lawyer had proof of girls and women being abused in the Lowcountry and that Wilson’s office ignored them.

Wilson said in an interview Tuesday that the first time he heard about these claims was when the text of Mace’s speech was published, shortly before she delivered it on the House floor.

“She is claiming that we are violating her rights, that we’re not assigning her a victim’s advocate, that we’re dragging our feet and she’s saying, ‘Why aren’t you prosecuting?’ I hadn’t heard about the investigation until this week. It wasn’t our case, and it hadn’t been referred to us,” Wilson said.

On Monday night, SLED confirmed for the first time it is investigating accusations of assault, voyeurism, and harassment involving Mace’s former fiancé, Patrick Bryant, who has denied all her claims.

According to a spokeswoman, SLED opened that investigation in December of 2023, 14 months ago, after being contacted by U.S. Capitol Police.
