Joseph Comer has filed a civil lawsuit against the West Virginia State Police and former troopers, superintendent Col. Jan Cahill, 1st Lt. James T. Findley, Jr. and 1st Sgt. Kenneth William.
The lawsuit alleges they wrongfully retaliated against Comer when it was revealed that he was the author of an anonymous letter sent to and revealed by Eyewitness News' lead investigative reporter, Kennie Bass.

The report outlined a number of serious misdeeds and unlawful acts allegedly committed by members of the state police, including placing a hidden video camera inside of the women's locker room at the WVSP Academy in Institute.
Comer's suit accuses those named in the complaint of eight counts of illegal activity. Specifically, the suit cites violations of West Virginia's "Whistle-Blower Law," disregarding statutes, legislative rules or regulations, intentional infliction of emotional distress/outrage, defamation of character, retaliatory prosecution, wrongful termination, violation of First Amendment rights and civil conspiracy.
Comer's attorney, David Moye, filed the petition in Kanawha County Circuit Court on October 8th.
