Zelenskyy disputes Putin's retaliation claim after Ukraine's Operation Spiderweb - RBC-Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told ABC News that Russian forces were attacking Ukraine even before the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) launched the Spiderweb operation. He stated that all the subsequent Russian strikes were planned in advance. These attacks are not a response to the actions of the Ukrainian special services.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin's claims of retaliation for the SBU operation are false.

The Ukrainian president stated that Putin's claim was not true. He noted that exactly one day before their operation, Ukraine faced its largest attack. In the 24 hours leading up to the operation, 480 or 483 drones were used, excluding missiles. Zelenskyy added that Putin was trying to justify his next strikes.

He noted that daily Russian strikes are not random. Intelligence data and analysis confirm this.

Zelenskyy explained that Russia’s attacks are deliberate, although the targets are often chosen randomly to cause civilian suffering. He stated that the strikes specifically targeted civilian areas. He recalled that despite talks of ceasefires or pauses in fighting, Russia continued to carry out attacks. He added that Russia believes this pressure will influence the political situation later.

Operation Spiderweb

On June 1, the SBU conducted a unique special operation called Spiderweb.

During the operation, FPV drones simultaneously attacked four Russian airfields: Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo.
