Ride-hailing company Bolt has dismissed reports that it plans to withdraw from the Kenyan market, saying a document circulating online about an impending shutdown was fabricated.
The company said the notice, which claimed Bolt would cease operations on June 8, 2026, was not issued by the business or any authorised representative. The clarification was issued on June 1 as the document continued to spread across social media platforms and messaging groups.
Bolt’s response places the company in the position of countering misinformation that directly affects confidence in its platform. The service relies on a large network of drivers and customers making daily decisions about where to book rides and generate income. Unverified claims about a market exit can create uncertainty across that ecosystem even before their accuracy is established.
The company stated that its services remain available throughout Kenya and that normal operations are continuing. It also reiterated its commitment to supporting driver-partners and customers while maintaining its presence in the country.
The disputed document appeared to present itself as an official corporate communication. Bolt said it is investigating how the material originated and indicated that action could be taken against individuals responsible for creating or distributing content that falsely represents the company.
