American Psychiatric Centers, doing business as Comprehensive Psychiatric Services, agreed to pay $2.75 million to resolve allegations it submitted false claims for psychotherapy services to government programs.
Federal and state officials alleged that from 2015 to 2022, the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based provider improperly billed using add-on psychotherapy codes 90833 and 90836 without delivering or adequately documenting the services, according to an Aug. 20 news release from the Justice Department.
The settlement requires CPS to pay $2.6 million to the federal government and $134,000 to California.
