California Supreme Court justices expressed doubts Tuesday about whether elected officials qualify for whistleblower protections under state labor code.
During oral arguments, Justice Goodwin Liu agreed the state labor code’s language is unclear about whether it applies to elected officials. However, these officials “have ways of telling their side of the story,” Liu said, because they have higher profiles and easier access to the public.
“If you don’t like what A did to B, then vote A out,” Liu said. “Why isn’t that enough?”
