Crossrail: Fault on some Elizabeth line trains 'could wipe someone out' claims whistleblower - My London

Around 70 Elizabeth line trains could have dangerous faults, a whistleblower has claimed. These trains are fitted with metal boxes near the passenger doors, which risk exploding from a build-up of gas, causing serious injury.

After a box's metal door was said to have blown off during testing on the line last month, a whistleblower has expressed concern they could cause serious injury if someone was hit. Both the train's builders, Alstom and Transport for London (TfL), have insisted the trains are safe and pose "no risk" to passengers.

But an internal memo to Alstom staff warns engineers not to go near the boxes, which contain electrical converters to power the trains, while working on trains in depots, reports MailOnline. The memo states walking past one of the boxes while the train is on is "permissible if no other option is available".

It adds: "However, make sure you are as far away from the converter as possible, do not loiter by the converter, walk as quickly past as possible, take no longer than four seconds to pass. If there is a choice of routes, a route not passing a converter should always be used."
