ActionSA condemns the Democratic Alliance’s latest statement as a blatant and deliberate lie intended to mislead the public and smear the Executive Mayor of Tshwane.
To be clear, the Executive Mayor has never “admitted that she owed the City of Tshwane arrears rates and taxes going back as far as 2023.” This claim is a deliberate distortion, based on unlawfully obtained information, and is completely false.
The City’s official records confirm that the Executive Mayor’s account was fully paid and up to date before the DA even raised the matter on 8 October. In fact, the account reflected a credit balance going into October. The figure the DA is attempting to sensationalise relates to a standard administrative reconciliation conducted by the City on 3 October 2025, which transferred historic property rates from the property’s previous owner. Importantly, the process of opening a new account and transferring historic charges lies outside the buyer’s control, and Dr Moya was required to wait for the administrative processes to conclude.
Upon receiving the invoice that included these historic charges, the Executive Mayor acted immediately and responsibly, contacting the City’s Chief Financial Officer to confirm that the reconciliation had been finalised and that she could settle any charges. She then paid the full amount on 6 October. The account remains in good standing.
