The Department of Homeland Security plans to issue more than 64,000 additional H-2B temporary work visas—the maximum allowed under a discretionary cap—on top of the normal annual allocation in the current fiscal year, the agency announced Wednesday.
Employers facing a labor shortage in the US have pressed the Biden administration to issue all available visas under the program the provides visas for seasonal, non-agricultural workers. DHS says it will make those supplemental visas available at the outset of the fiscal year to more quickly address hiring needs.
