A former Connecticut nurse has been charged with submitting thousands of false Medicaid claims for medication she did not give to patients, federal prosecutors said Friday.
Florida resident Marisol Rodriguez, 49, was arrested Thursday and charged with healthcare fraud and making false statements. She faces up to 15 years in prison, and was released on a $100,000 bond after appearing before a federal judge in Hartford, according to Tom Carson, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut.
According to the complaint filed against Rodriguez, she billed Connecticut Medicaid for more than 15,000 claims totaling more than $1.35 million while working as a nurse in Newington between January 2022 and August 2025.
An analysis by the Department of Social Services found that she ranked first of all nurses surveyed for claims submitted, with 5,000 more claims and $500,000 more in payouts than second place, according to Carson.
But the complaint against Rodriguez claims she wasn't just billing for necessary medications.
"Rodriguez repeatedly billed Medicaid for services not rendered, including for services purportedly rendered to patients, sometimes for months or years after the patients stopped seeing her; while working full-time at a different employer; while she collected unemployment benefits after being terminated by that employer; and for services purportedly rendered to patients that were hospitalized, incarcerated, or deceased," Carson said in a...
