Labor Department Fines Texas Bakeries for Child Labor Violations - news.bloombergtax.com

The US Labor Department recovered thousands in back wages and assessed penalties after finding child labor, minimum wage, and overtime violations by the operators of three La Panaderia Bakery & Café locations in San Antonio, Texas.

The department’s Wage and Hour Division found the three companies operating the cafés employed a 13-year-old, under the legal age for employment, and permitted a 15-year-old to work overnight in violation of child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The employers also failed to pay proper minimum wage and overtime rates to workers.
