The department of labor says the ruling impacts more than 180 workers at GEM Interiors in Milford.

The investigation found the company lied about overtime hours worked and it misclassified employees as independent contractors so they didn't qualify for overtime pay.

The company will now repay the wages over three years starting in April.

They also agreed to hire someone to audit payroll and time records.

"The court's order ends a long struggle to recover wages earned and owed to more than 150 workers from GEM Interiors Inc.," Wage and Hour District Director Matthew Utley said in a statement. "This employer wrongly believed that they could ignore the rule of law that protects workers' rights to be paid their full and legally earned wages. Our dogged effort will make these workers whole and hold the employer accountable for their past misjudgments and future actions.
