Neo-Nazi gatecrashes press conference with Victorian Premier - Australian Broadcasting Corporation

Premier Jacinta Allan has been forced to cut a press conference short after Neo-Nazi leader Thomas Sewell gatecrashed the event.

Ms Allan was addressing media for a scheduled press conference on working-from-home laws at a park in West Melbourne when Mr Sewell appeared alongside an associate.

Mr Sewell began shouting insults and accusations at Ms Allan, who quickly left the area while a security detail tried to block the men.

The 32-year-old's tirade included false claims that the Premier wanted to ban the right to protest. He also labelled Ms Allan a "coward".

Mr Sewell also claimed 50,000 people protested against immigration at the weekend, but it was unclear if he was referencing demonstrations in one city or several. Victoria Police estimated attendance in Melbourne was 5,000.

Despite falsely claiming that Australians do not have the right to protest, Mr Sewell was handed a microphone at the Melbourne event and addressed crowds from the steps of Victorian Parliament.

The Melbourne demonstration erupted into violent clashes that saw 12 people arrested.

Mr Sewell could also be seen in video of an attack by far-right demonstrators on the Camp Sovereignty First Nations protest camp following the rally, with calls for the attack to be investigated as a hate crime.

Mr Sewell claimed his appearance at the press conference on Tuesday was a "coincidence" and that he was on his way to attend court.
