Paramount has made no such announcement. The claim originated on a satirical website that says its content is fictional.
Aldean has faced backlash since the music video for his song “Try That in a Small Town” was released in July, with some interpreting the song as supporting gun violence and lynching, as USA TODAY previously reported. The singer has denied such characterizations, arguing the song is about a “sense of community and respect.” Some scenes in the music video were shot at the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee, where an 18-year-old Black man named Henry Choate was lynched in 1927.
CMT pulled the music video from its rotation in response to the controversy. Still, the song has had record-breaking sales and was No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late July.
