Police funding bills pass the House - The Washington Post

Today, the House passed four police-funding bills with bipartisan votes after months of negotiating within the Democratic caucus to advance the legislation. The passage came hours after an unexpected recess that signaled Democrats were scrambling to round up procedural votes to advance the measures to a full vote. In the Senate, Republicans blocked a bid by Democrats to advance legislation to provide disclosure of donors to super PACs.

None of the bills is expected to reach President Biden’s desk before the midterm elections, but Democratic leaders say considering them sends an important message. House Democrats are trying to fend off Republican attacks that they are soft on crime. Senate Democrats will attack Republicans for blocking campaign finance reform.

The closely watched Senate race in Arizona that was long considered a toss-up between a well-financed Republican challenger and a vulnerable Democratic incumbent has now been reclassified as “Lean Democrat,” the independent Cook Political Report announced late Thursday.
