Reform councillor criticised over false claims made in TV interview - Bournemouth Echo

A Reform councillor is under pressure to apologise after repeating incorrect claims about asylum seekers and crime.

During a Talk TV interview a presenter asked Reform Councillor Cameron Adams about the figures that “0.6 per cent of the population of Bournemouth are migrant,” and that “migrants were responsible for 40 percent of pending prosecution in sex crime cases”.

The figures have previously been debunked as false by Dorset Police, as well as the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner and the fact checking website FullFact.

Dorset Police stated that, between January 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, there were eight sexual offence reports in Bournemouth where the reported offender was associated with the asylum accommodation.

During the same time period, there was a total of 808 sexual offences reported in Bournemouth, meaning the figure was approximately 1 per cent, not 44 per cent.

Cllr Adams said: “I did not share the specific statistic now being discussed that was mentioned by the interviewer and therefore cannot comment on where that particular figure originated from.

“I stand by the facts I relied upon in the recent interview, where I stated that 148 offences were carried out by illegal migrants residing in the three migrant hotels between 2023 and March 2025.
