Rylan Clark has issued a statement after his bizarre outburst on This Morning about immigration, an outburst which has since been widely debunked.
Clark, widely known for his stint on X-Factor and his subsequent career as a presenter, decided to weigh in on the ongoing criticism of decisions to house migrants in hotels across the UK.
This decision, made by the Conservative government in 2019, has led to various racist protests outside migrant hotels across the UK, as well as false claims being made about how the process works.
These false claims includes the statement made by Rylan on This Morning in which he stated that migrants in hotels was a ‘major worry’ as part of a discussion of Nigel Farage’s mass deportation plan
He went on to say that he finds it ‘absolutely insane’ that people are risking their lives to come across the channel and added that many Labour voters are saying ‘there’s something wrong’.
Rylan claimed that asylum seekers seem to be told: “Here’s the hotel, here’s the phones, here’s your iPad, here’s three meals a day, here’s the NHS in the reception of your hotel, have a lovely time.”
Large parts of this are factually incorrect, something Rylan was slammed for on social media.
Migrants in the UK seeking asylum were briefly given phones during COVID-19, but only for specific circumstances such as interviews.
Whilst some asylum seekers are provided phones or sim cards, these are provided by charities and not public funds.
