TSB staff could bring employment tribunal claims over plans to require employees to work from the office three days a week, after an independent union warned it was preparing legal challenges on behalf of members unable to comply for health or personal reasons.
The Independent Union for TSB Staff (TBU) said “all roads are going to lead back to employment law” following the bank’s decision to introduce a mandatory three-day office attendance policy from April 2027 as part of Santander UK’s integration of the business.
TSB employs around 5,000 staff and has not previously operated a formal minimum office attendance requirement. The new policy follows Santander’s takeover of the bank in April and will bring TSB into line with Santander UK’s existing hybrid working arrangements.
In its latest newsletter to members, the TBU said: “As we predicted in our last newsletter, TSB has confirmed staff will be required to attend the office for three days a week from April 2027. However, we are aware that some line managers are trying to implement that new policy now!”
The union alleged that employees had been misled about the permanence of previous hybrid working arrangements.
