UNCW, Military Partners Dispel False Social Media Claims - University of North Carolina Wilmington | UNCW

UNCW has been working in collaboration with officials at the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and local law enforcement agencies to address persistent rumors circulating on social media.

After receiving a handful of calls and emails expressing concern about the alleged mistreatment of U.S. Marines by members of university fraternities, UNCW Police have been working tirelessly with base leadership and other partners to determine the validity of these claims. Following an exhaustive effort, officials have determined that there is no truth behind the rumors. The allegations being made are solely falsehoods generated on social media. These rumors disrespect the legacy of honor and service that UNCW and the Marine Corps share.

The Truth about UNCW’s Respect for our Armed Forces

UNCW has a longstanding partnership with our military partners and community members. Founded in 1947 to help World War II veterans transition to civilian life, the university currently serves about 2,400 military-affiliated students and veterans. They make up about 12% of the university’s student body. UNCW hosted a full slate of Veterans Week events to honor members of the Armed Forces and their service to our country, which kicked off on Friday, Nov. 7, with the All Veteran Group parachute team landing onto campus.
