UTICA — A 44-year-old man has been charged with breaking a door at the Utica Police Station after he came into the building making up false claims Thursday morning, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said Tyrone Henry, of Utica, walked into police headquarters on Oriskany Street West at about 11 p.m. Thursday screaming that he had just been shot in the head. Officers quickly determined that Henry had not been short, nor had he been assaulted in any fashion.
The officers on the scene attempted to speak to Henry about a possible mental health evaluation, at which point police said Henry began to repeatedly kick one of the glass doors in the vestibule. Police said Henry’s kicking shattered the glass, damaging the door.
Henry was taken into custody and police said he did not meet the criteria for an involuntary transport to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. Police said Henry was charged with third-degree mischief, and he is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
