Introduction
The person who exposed the relationship between convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester and celebrity doctor Nandipha Magudumana has reportedly gone into hiding after receiving numerous threatening phone calls. Nkosinathi Sekeleni blew the whistle on Bester last year, but recent media reports suggest that the convict is still alive after escaping from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein. As a result of the increased media coverage, Sekeleni has fled his home with his family.
Bester’s escape
The Department of Correctional Services confirmed that Bester had indeed escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre, and he was believed to have died in a fire that broke out in his cell in May. However, it has since emerged that the DNA of the body found in the cell did not match Bester’s. GroundUp has published reports linking Bester to Magudumana after the couple was spotted at a Woolworths in Sandton City two months after he escaped.
Whistleblower in hiding
The media coverage surrounding Bester’s escape has caused Sekeleni to flee his home with his wife and son. He has gone into hiding and is calling for protection from authorities. Sekeleni’s deleted Facebook post from a year ago has been making rounds on social media, and he has confirmed that Magudumana reported him to the police because of it. He made the post from his “hacked” Facebook account and later dropped the defamation case.
