An East Camden drugstore has agreed to pay $310,000 to settle claims that it submitted false claims to government health insurance programs.
Camden Discount Pharmacy was accused of submitting claims for reimbursement for drugs that were never dispensed to patients covered by the federal government's Medicare Part D program and New Jersey's Medicaid program.
The drug store on the 3700 block of Westfield Avenue made the claims over approximately seven years, from Jan. 2, 2015 through Jan. 24, 2022, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for New Jersey.
The pharmacy, operated by Raghu Ram Inc., denies any wrongdoing, the settlement said.
The agreement stated that both parties are settling "to avoid the delay, uncertainty, inconvenience, and expense of protracted litigation."
An attorney for the business could not be reached for comment.
In a civil action, the government alleged the Cramer Hill pharmacy sought reimbursements for drugs that weren't purchased from wholesalers or distributed to customers.
The drug store's payment includes $155,000 as restitution to the state and federal programs.
The settlement, announced June 30, doesn't characterize the remaining payment of $155,000.
