Why Michigan's pandemic unemployment aid problems seem like déjà vu - Detroit News

Just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, 58-year-old Consuelo Mauricio encountered a significant snag while attempting to file for unemployment with Washington state.

The state of Michigan — where she'd moved from in 2014 to take care of her grandson on the West Coast — was intercepting every cent of jobless aid Washington sent Mauricio’s way plus her federal stimulus checks to repay unemployment aid she received in 2014 when she still lived in the Great Lakes State.
