A woman found guilty of illegally recording a sexual encounter with a Pennsylvania Air National Guard officer that she later claimed was rape will serve between 30 days and two years less one day in prison, Lebanon County District Attorney Pier Hess Graf announced Wednesday.
Veronika Rodriguez was convicted in May of two felony counts of illegal wiretapping and one count of making false claims to law enforcement. She was sentenced Wednesday at a hearing before Judge Charles T. Jones Jr.
Following Rodriguez's conviction, Graf called her a "deceitful criminal" who had consensual sex with Fahad Pervez in January 2023, and "falsely cried rape only when confronted about fraternization with the victim by her military superior."
Rodriguez and Pervez were both members of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard at the time of their encounter.
Graf and Senior Deputy District Attorney Amy Muller, who prosecuted the case, said Rodriguez's actions make it difficult for victims of sexual violence to report their attacks to authorities.
"(Rodriguez) cannot be compared to actual victims of sexual violence, as the jury has decided she was no such victim," the prosecutors said. "This case should not discourage actual victims of sexual violence from coming forward and reporting."
